The purpose of this code of conduct is
to promote behavior that honors the Lord. As a group of Christian
families, our witness to others, both in word and actions, is very
important.
"It is by deeds that a lad distinguishes himself,
if his conduct is pure and right." 2Prov. 20:11. "And whatever you
do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks through Him to God the Father." 2Col. 3:17.
- All students will be held responsible
for their actions and shall conduct themselves in keeping with
their level of maturity, showing regard for established authority
and the rights and welfare of others. We call this living by the
"Law of Love".
- "Recital Etiquette" - People are always
watching us as Home Schoolers. Our testimony is especially on
the line during weekly devotions and special events sponsored
by Heritage throughout the year. Therefore, you need to remind
your children of the simple, but important rules of "Recital Etiquette".
Once a speaker or performer has begun, no one is to enter or leave
or wander around the room. If you must leave before the program
is over, do so only between performances. To do otherwise is disrespectful,
distracting, and rude.
- We ask that students seek excellence,
be honest, use clean speech, and be courteous and kind to all.
- Devotions will be offered at
10:00 p.m. We strongly encourage everyone to attend. No loitering
in the halls during Devotions.
- If a student has a free period, he/she
can go to the study hall, Fellowship area or outside in nice weather
(with parent supervision). All students should remain on Elgin
Evangelical Free property during their time at HHSW unless given
permission by their parents to do otherwise.
- Any student found with possession
of any type of firearm, knife, tobacco, alcohol, or drugs will
be asked to leave the premises immediately and be considered for
dismissal from the workshops.
|
- HHSW's primary purpose is to provide
Christian education and support for one another. It is not to
foster dating relationships. For this reason, we have implemented
the following policies:
- Appropriate language must be used at
all times.
- No pairing off as couples is allowed
and dating-type relationships will not be allowed. Flirting,
as well as any public display of affection, is not allowed.
- Inappropriate language or behavior
should be brought to the attention of one of the Board Members
immediately.
- We do want
to encourage all students to develop healthy and godly relationships
with one another. Students should feel tree to pursue friendships
without the pressures of dating.

Citations are issued by Board Members for any violation of the handbook,
including violation of the Dress Code, EE Free and HHSW Codes of
Conduct, or disrespectful or disruptive behavior during a class.
When a first citation is issued, the parent and student are notified.
If a second citation is issued, a conference is held with the parent,
student, and the Board. A third citation is cause for dismissal
from Heritage.
The purpose of the Board is not to police or baby-sit your children.
Families whose children are habitually not in compliance with Heritage policy will be asked to leave the organization.
Greater misconduct could result in immediate dismissal of a student
and his/her family from the Heritage organization. The Board reserves
the right to dismiss any student or family at any time to maintain
high Biblical standards

HHSW has adopted the following dress code
for the compelling reasons. The Dress Code is designed:
- to ensure that everyone is dressed
modestly, thereby protecting the purity of our brothers and sisters
in Christ (see I Timothy 2:9)
- to promote a serious academic atmosphere
and eliminate potential distractions to learning
- to encourage the development of God-honoring
relationships based on individual character instead of outward
appearance (see I Samuel 16:7; James 2:14).
|
The dress code is for all students K thu

enforcement. |
 |
 |
The policy decisions of HHSW are determined by the Board of Directors,
who are appointed by the Chairman of the Board. When necessary, the
Board of Directors may appoint a committee to help meet some of the
day-to-day needs of HHSW. More details on how HHSW operates may be
found in the HHSW Constitution and By-laws. |
 |
1. Parents need to read the Information and Policy Handbook. The
Handbook contains the statement of faith, rules and regulations,
class descriptions, etc.
2. If the family agrees with the vision of HHSW
and can willingly submit to the rules, the family should fill out
an application.
3. Bring this completed application to the Elgin
Evangelical Free Church on registration day. New families must apply
in person with their children. Prior to registering for the first
time, a short interview is held with Board Members. |
|
 |
The spiritual objective of Heritage Home School Workshops shall be
to provide an academic environment which supports the Christian faith.
HHSW instructors and board members must, therefore, understand the
foundational function of the HHSW Statement of Faith and be in agreement
with the Statement of Faith or the Nicene Creed. |
|
 |
It is extremely important to remember that HHSW is a cooperative effort
on the part of parents, their children, and teachers. Therefore, we
strongly encourage a high level of responsibility and accountability
from all parents.
A parent from each family must be on the premises for the entire
time that your child(or children) are in the building. Parent sign-in
sheets are located on the information tables. Be sure to sign by
your name when you arrive each week. .
Cleaning is one of the most important aspects of the Agreement HHSW
has with Elgin Evangelical Free Church. It is critical that all
HHSW families bear this in mind throughout their day at Elgin Evangelical
Free. If you or your child make a mess, you need to clean it up
immediately. Please see Board Members for cleaning needs. We have
a cleaning crew, but they are not our maids. They will be working
hard for hours at the end of each Heritage day doing general cleaning.
Therefore, it is of paramount importance that you remind yourselves
and your children of Jesus' Golden Rule. Specifically this means:
- Keep your table and the floor around
it in the Fellowship area and classrooms clean.
- No food or drinks (except water) outside
of the Fellowship area or gym.
- Do not litter inside and outside the
building.
- Hang all coats and jackets on the coat
racks outside the Fellowship area and at the entrance of the church.
- If you see an overflowing wastebasket,
take it to the dumpster.
- The Lord has blessed us with a wonderful building in which to meet. LET'S KEEP IT CLEAN.
|
In order for the Workshops to run smoothly, each family needs to volunteer
at least 3-5 hours per month. If a family does not keep its commitment
to share in the responsibilities at HHSW, it will not be eligible
to register for classes the following semester.
Here are some of the areas where volunteers are needed:
- Hall monitors for 1st and 2nd floors.
General guidelines: No students roaming halls during class. Encourage
parents to have conversations in the Fellowship area or quietly in the upstairs foyer.
- No gum allowed! Check restrooms for
messes and supplies. Food should be eaten in the Fellowship area.
Check the parking lot area. There should be no scooters, skating
in the parking lot. Watch for suspicious activity and strangers.
No children should be in the gym or outdoors without an adult
present.
- Bathroom checkers at noon-replenish
T.P., empty garbage, pick up papers.
- Lunch time-clean-empty garbage and
check floor for messes.
- Help clean at the end of the day.
- Assist with one of the many jobs associated
with the Christmas Program, Project Fair, etc.
- Be a teacher's assistant-help with
classroom activities, grade papers, class projects, etc.
- Watch a baby or toddler for a teacher with Nursery Duties.
|
Teachers should let parents know how often they will be required to
attend the classes with their Children. In general, parents
are urged to attend as many classes as possible. If younger
children need your care, we suggest utilizing the nursery so that you may attend some classes with your older children. |
Should an emergency or illness arise, parents must have another parent
agree to be responsible for their child(or children) if they have
to leave for part of the day. You must also inform and secure permission
from a Board Member before leaving your child{or children) in the
care of another adult. Please fill out the Permission Release Form when leaving the building. You may download the form from the web site. Copies of the form are kept at the board table as well. |

The purpose of the workshops is to provide high quality, academically
challenging, spiritually uplifting classes to supplement, support,
arid encourage, but not to replace, what is being learned at home.
We are not a school and do not intend to be one. By workshop we mean
"a brief, intensive educational program for a relatively small
group of people in a given field that emphasizes participation in
problem-solving efforts".
Our workshops are a unique educational experience in that we combine
a high level of commitment from parents, students, and teachers.
We are a ministry strongly committed to supporting home education,
and intend only to aid and supplement what dedicated families are
already pursuing at home.
The workshops are designed to meet the needs of families with
children ages K - 12. Pre school classes are offered strictly
for those families with registered older siblings
|
|
 |
Registration information is provided on the classes
page. |

|
 |
- There is a $10 registration fee per
class per family (not to exceed $40) for each semester.
- Each family also pays a $20 Building and Cleaning Fee each semester.
- Elgin Evangelical Free Church facility fee:
- Mondays - $1 per day/per student
- Thursdays - $.50 per day/per student
These fees do not cover the cost of the classes your children will
attend. The class fees will be determined by each teacher. We ask
that you be prompt in paying the teachers their required fees. Teachers
may be paid at the beginning of the semester for the entire semester
or monthly by the first week of each month. Some teachers may require other payment arrangements. For your convenience,
there will be a teacher payment box with envelopes for each teacher
located at the Board Table.
Note: The third week of the first semester is Add/Drop day. If you have
not dropped a class by this time, you are responsible for all the
teacher fees for that semester. |

Our Statement of Faith concerns the Person and Work of Jesus Christ
as revealed in the Scriptures. There are many other truths taught
in the Bible, over which godly men have differed in opinion and understanding.
Therefore, this is not a statement of all that is important to believe,
but it represents the basic principles upon which the workshops were
founded and continue to operate. (Romans 15:5-6) |
- We believe the Bible to be the infallible
Word of God, the supreme and final authority for all faith and
life.
- We believe there is one God, eternally
existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, God
the Holy Spirit.
- We believe in the deity of our Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life,
His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death through His shed
blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension, and His imminent
bodily return in power and glory.
- We believe that man was created in
the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore lost, and
only those that put their faith in Jesus Christ alone can be
saved.
- We believe that salvation is the
gift of God brought to man by God's grace, and received by personal
faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose substitutionary death
on the cross provided forgiveness for man's sin.
- We believe that the ministry of the
Holy Spirit is to convict, indwell, guide, instruct, and empower
the believer for godly living and service.
- We believe in the spiritual unity
of believers through our common faith in Jesus Christ and the
individual doctrinal differences which may exist should not
hinder the unity of Christian home educators.
