Subject: Electives
Class: Great Games Galore: Logical Thinking
Grades: 3rd -- Up
Teacher : Jeanne Banducci
Contact: 847-885-0880
Email: chocolvr@wowway.com
Students: Minimum 3 - Maximum TBA

Description:
In this entirely new class, students will learn logical thinking skills, strategy, various academic skills, creative thinking skills, and a wide range of other skills that are developed by playing Great Games Galore. Students will think they are just there to play.

All of the games offered will be the old fashioned type, no batteries necessary, no video screen, no cheats to download, and the game is not dependent on the temperament of a computer.

There will be a varied assortment of games available throughout the semester that can be played in the class time available. Some of the options will be Pipeline, Crosstrack, Othello, Fraction Mania, Set, Mancala, Quiddler, Mad Dash, Mastermind, Presto Change-O, Ring-A-Round, Stratego, Continuo, Magic 4, Freeze Frame, and Tantrix along with many, many more.

Each week students will be assigned to groups to play two games. If it is a new game, I will teach them how to play. Students will be grouped with different players each week so they will have the opportunity to get to know new friends throughout the semester. The children will improve their logical thinking and strategizing abilities. Parents are always welcome and encouraged to join us in playing the games, too. (Sorry, younger siblings cannot be accommodated in this class.)

Required Materials:
Student and Parent must both sign an Expectations Agreement at or before the first class which outlines expected class behavior and proper care of the games. Agreement will be supplied at registration.

About the Teacher:
About the Teacher: I have been homeschooling for 9 years and always enjoy learning right along with my student. I have two children in college and one homeschooler who is attending Heritage. I taught the Exploring Literature class at Heritage in the 2006-07 school year, and Great Games Galore in the Winter 2007 semester. My homeschooling experience has taught me that my activity-based teaching style benefits student understanding and retention—students won’t be spending much time sitting in this class!

Fee:
$1.50 Tuition Per Student Per week. Payment due monthly.
