Math-U-See is a video and manipulative based math program. In pre-algebra students will cover topics ranging from negative numbers, ratio and proportion to adding and multiplying polynomials. You can find a complete scope and sequence at: www.mathusee.com. Because there are 30 lessons, students will be expected to complete a lesson each week, including the test.
Teacher will consider 6th graders upon successful completion of the placement test. Students should have a solid understanding of foundational math concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and decimals. If you are uncertain whether your student is ready for pre-algebra you can download placement tests from the MUS web-site or see me.
Materials required: Pre-algebra student and teacher pack. Manipulatives with decimal and algebra inserts are helpful but not mandatory. We will be using these in class to introduce new concepts.
