Shelley Johnson has a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Computer Science from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. She worked as a computer programmer for two years before having two children. She has extensive tutoring experience at both high school and college level math classes. She is currently homseschooling her 4 year old and 2 year old, and she has been working toward her certificate to teach high school math.
The class will still be available even if the minimum number of students is not met, but the price per student would increase. $4.00 per child/class, plus a one-time $10.00
copy fee.
Many students like the idea of being able to receive college credit
while still in high school. Participating in the AP (advanced placement)
program gives you the opportunity to take college-level courses while
you're still in high school. At the end of the school year, students can
take an advanced placement exam to try to earn college credit. These
exams are available to all students, and the cost for the exam is $83.
Many colleges and universities will grant course credit for qualifying
grades on AP exams, allowing students to take more advanced courses,
double major, or finish college early.
The AP Calculus exam (Calculus AB) covers material from about two-thirds
of a year of college calculus, and many colleges will take a qualifying
exam grade as a substitute for one semester of college calculus. The calculus course to be offered at Heritage will be taught as preparation for the AP exam, and students will be encouraged to take the AP exam at the end of the year. The exam is not required for completion of the course. The course will still be
excellent preparation for a college level calculus course should
students decide not to take the exam. Students will need to make
arrangements for the test in March. Information regarding AP tests can
be found on the College Board website ( www.collegeboard.com ).
