Description:
This is an excellent class for the high schooler who needs a literature credit, but, who is attracted to the nature of shorter and more frequently changing stories. Content will be rich but less voluminous than other high school literature offerings.

We will be looking at the short story as a literary genre. Each short story will be used to highlight an element of fiction such as: Character and Conflict, Setting and Props, Plot and Foreshadowing, Irony, and the Extended Short Story. We will be using the book American 24-Karat Gold as our main text book. The book addresses skills such as pre-reading vocabulary, pre-reading questions, annotation during reading, follow-up questions, discussion questions, and writing/journal prompts. We will cover one short story and several of the previously mentioned elements each week. Each student will need to have a copy of the book. I will supply any other supplemental materials that the students might need. I trust that this class will be a fun and challenging class for event the reluctant reader. I hope that each student might find an opportunity to enjoy even these small samplings of exciting writing. While we will be reading works written by authors whose world view might be very different from our own, I trust that we will be able to critically evaluate the stories through the wisdom that only comes from Christ.

About the Teacher:
My name is Kristin Campbell and I graduated from Northwestern College in Roseville, Minnesota in 1991. I received a Bachelor’s degree in English Education and Bible and a coaching certificate for volleyball. I played volley ball throughout high school and college. I was also an All American Nominee for volleyball my senior year of college. I have been married to Jason Campbell for 11 years and we have 4 boys, Jacob-8, Joshua-6, Jackson-4 and Jordan--1. I am a stay at home mom and I love these men in my life. We go to Lombard Gospel Chapel in Lombard and we are very active there. I am also a Creative Memories Consultant and I absolutely love it. This is our fourth year home schooling and we are looking forward to another fun year.

Fee:
$5 per student per class fee with a $10 copy material fee per student
