Language Arts

Description:
This multi-subject, two-semester course will be a study of three
Shakespeare plays in the context of a Christian worldview combined
with instruction in writing about literary themes such as plot,
character, setting, imagery, etc. as well as history of the
Renaissance/Elizabethan time period.

For the Shakespeare aspect of the class we will begin at an
introductory level, adapting ourselves to the writing of Shakespeare
and getting acquainted with the play before jumping in to a
full-fledge study of the play. Time in class will include reading
of the plays together, instruction on the language of Shakespeare, a
study of the Biblical themes present, and finally, a short adaptation
of one play. While this class will discuss the Bible as it relates to
the plays studied, it will NOT be a Bible study/doctrinal class.

The writing aspect of the class will involve studying how to write
about the various literary themes. A paper will be due every two to
three weeks which features one of the themes. For our text, we will
be using Writing About Literature. I have copies of this book and
will rent them to the student for the duration of the class.

Required Materials:
Student work will be evaluated by the effort put into it and the
progress made from where the student begins. Four days of homework
which require about 45 - 60 minutes will be assigned each week.

TeacherBackground:
I am wife to Ed and mother to six children; our eldest getting married in August and our youngest 3 years old. We have been homeschooling for 15 years via Charlotte Mason's gentle art of learning. The aspect I love the most about studying earth science is how marvelously it points to our creator. . . "the heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth his handiwork."! Psalms 19:1

Fee:
The class fee will be 75.00 per semester and includes book rental and
copy fee. Payment of $25.00 will be expected the 3rd Monday of Sept,
Oct., and Nov. (Jan, Feb, and April 2nd semester) Students will also
need their own copies of the plays to be studied. I will be
purchasing these over the summer and will let you know the cost at
registration. It will be less than $20.00.
