We will concentrate on the period of westward expansion of the United States—roughly the 1800’s. Through hands-on activities augmented by reading, dramas and student presentations, we will explore the Louisiana Purchase with Louis and Clark; discover gold in California; Ride the Santa Fe, Oregon and other famous trails. We’ll also help build the Transcontinental Railroad, escape slavery on the Underground Railroad, ride the range with the cowboys, help deliver mail on the Pony Express and lots, lots more! Along the way we’ll meet lots of famous trailblazers, pioneers, and other historic figures and we’ll study the geography of our great country and some key wars that took place during this period.
Jenny has been homeschooling her four children for the last ten years and enjoys learning history alongside of them. She hopes this class will excite students about some of the Who’s, Where’s and When’s of our nation’s past
