Adventure Tales of America Volume 1 covers the years 1492-1877 in the development of the United States of America. The curriculum presents information to both left brain (written, verbal) and right brain (visual, creative) learners. While most people use their dominant learning style, this curriculum strives to develop the non-dominant style as well as provide students with information in a way that appeals to the individual student. The Adventure Tales of America textbook somewhat resembles a comic book. Facts are presented in sections with illustrations and, often, humor. It is in a narrative (story) format. While we will cover the Constitution, this is not a Constitution class.
Assignments will include: writing, drawing, creative and critical thinking skills, and drama. Homework will be required for all students. Expect a minimum of 45-60 minutes of work 4-5 days per week in addition to class time. Class discussion and activities will hinge on the previous week’s homework. Therefore, if the student has not done the homework it will be almost impossible for him to benefit from the following class period. Please be aware of how much time and effort your student needs devote to this class. I personally enjoy history and hope the students will, too. We can have fun learning the information, but only if they are well prepared. Parents are invited to join us any time. We would love to have an audience for some of the drama type activities.
Tests: Multiple choice and essay format. Unit tests will be completed at home monitored by the parent, then turned in and graded by the teacher.
Students need to have the following before the first class meeting.

About the Teacher: I have been homeschooling for 9 years and always enjoy learning right along with my student. I have two children in college and one homeschooler who is attending Heritage. I taught the Exploring Literature class at Heritage in the 2006-07 school year, and Great Games Galore in the Winter 2007 semester. My homeschooling experience has taught me that my activity-based teaching style benefits student understanding and retention—students won’t be spending much time sitting in this class!
$3.00 per child/class, plus $8.00 copy/supply fee per semester.
